Day 6 - Pronunciation 4

Class data:

  • Teacher:  Mike (lr.mikey)
  • Lesson: Pronunciation - Lesson 4
  • Schedule: 08:30-

What we did today:

  1. Introduction / 6 min
  2. Pronunciation / 20 min

Summary:

In this morning, we introduced our selves first, because this was my first his lesson. And, he told me he teaches not only at Langrich but also high school in Philippine.
He was really good at teaching stuff. Each sections in the textbook(e.g. phonetic symbols, tongue twisters), he described me the meaning of lessons based on his English teacher knowledge. It helped me a lot to motivate to study. For example, there were two sounds to learn today, ʃ("s" sound) and ʒ("z" sound), but how could we tell the difference? If a symbol "s" is located between vowels, you pronunce "s" as ʒ. (e.g. usually - between "u"s. invasion - between "a" and "i"), he said. By his description, I now can truly know which sound I should pronounce. He also told me that his many Korean and Japanese students lost their English accents and words knowledge because they stopped keeping practicing English. English accents are very forgettable and If you keep your English level where you are at right now, you must use English everyday. I thought Mike's lesson today was very valuable for me.

New words and expressions:

  • leisure - noun[uncountable]
    • time when you are not working or studying and can relax and do things you enjoy.
